Fundraiser to Benefit The Ghana Project

Once again, we are happy to host an online fundraiser to benefit The Ghana Project, Anthony Stewart’s effort to improve the education of children in Cape Coast, Ghana. Donations to PeaceRoots Alliance are fully tax-deductible for U.S. taxpayers.

Here’s a letter from Anthony describing the project:

The children pre-k-1 students wait for instructions before they begin their day. They are sitting in what was once their classroom before the heavy rainstorm in June.

Dear family and friends,

In 2020 I boarded a plane headed to Cape Coast, Ghana, My mission was to volunteer as a reading teacher for four months and take some time to journey through Ghana and visit some of its great wonders. As of today, it has been over 3 1/2 years.

My passion for teaching was highly respected by the Ghanaians and has landed me a position as Head School Master and Chairman of several village schools here in Cape Coast Ghana. Accepting these positions, which are solely volunteer, I got myself in gear to assist the schools. My first task was to assess the schools. After my complete assessment, It came to me that if I was going to be of any help many things were to change. The most obvious was that their educational materials were inadequate to teach and be successful; the building structures were mostly unfinished and needed much work done on them to house the children, both to protect them from the hot African sun and also to protect them during the rainy season.

The village schools get no support from the government; any supplies or support comes from the small tuition that the students pay. The question to myself was, “How do I help this?” Firstly I reached out to my family and friends and explained what my vision was and how I could get some support. So I humbly asked if they would embrace my efforts in finding funds to help correct the things that were greatly needed.

The support I received was amazing. I was able to provide some most needed educational materials, building materials such as cement and sand to make our own blocks to finish some areas of the school. I then decided I needed to start my own foundation because of all that is needed to be done with the schools I had affiliated with. My foundation is called The Determiners, determined to get the job done, bringing hope to the hopeless.

Let me share some of the projects and support we have been able to provide:

  • We have been successful in building the walls higher at one school and patching the roof to help keep the rain and sun off of students and teachers.
  • We have been able to get the school its first running toilets.
  • We have provided materials to redo several floors so that children wouldn’t have to sit in the dust.
  • We have provided a couple of printers, laptops, reading and writing materials.
  • Some tuition for families who can’t afford it.
  • A wheelchair for a disabled student.
  • Food for a local Orphanage.

Moving forward, our main focus is on raising enough funds to rebuild the orphanage’s school that was blown down in a storm this past summer.

The storm totally demolished the already shanty structure that was their school building.

I am blessed and humbled by the calling to do this great work, but I’m needing each and every one of my loved ones to embrace my efforts in supporting these projects. Any and every little bit will help. Your donations and support will be gratefully appreciated.

God bless and I hope we’ll be hearing from you,

Anthony Stewart / The Ghana Project

This is what remains of the school structure, and my goal is to find enough family, friends, and onlookers to embrace my efforts to help rebuild Sankofa’s school. The Ghana Project’s mission is to help bring hope to the hopeless.
