Quilts! Quilts! Quilts!

Judy Meeker, More Than Warmth

More Than Warmth

One of the organizations our Peace Roots Alliance fundraisers support is More Than Warmth, with donations to the Tennessee and the northern California divisions to foster their work. More Than Warmth was founded by Judy Meeker as a not-for-profit organization that encourages children to learn about and support the homeless in foreign countries by making quilts for them.

The quilts in these photos were distributed to needy children in Haiti; Kpalime, Togo, West Africa; Afghanistan; and Tibet.

Making squares for a quilt gives American students a way to process international events and increase their awareness of world cultures. Students also learn about regions of strife and conflict in the world. More Than Warmth gives children a chance to effect positive change in their world. Quilts have gone to schools for girls, orphanages, daycare centers, schools for the deaf, street children, and trauma centers.

More than 11,000 students have contributed to this artistic expression of friendship since the first quilts were sent to an orphanage in Afghanistan in 2002, giving more than 1,000 quilts to children in need around the world.
